Washington Trip

9 Oct

Here are a few fun snap shots from our trip to Washington this past weekend.  While we were visiting, my mother-in-law wanted to do a mini family photo shoot at the pumpkin patch for Christmas cards.  My sister-in-law, Laura, is an awesome photographer and she took most of the family photos (see her website here).  I took the other pictures (mostly with instagram) throughout the weekend.  We had lots of the fun at the pumpkin patch picking out cool pumpkins and playing with our cute nieces and nephews.  PS. Aren’t all my nieces and nephews ADORABLE!

Overall, the wedding was fabulous and seeing family was just what we needed.  I am so thankful for the trip and can’t wait to visit again!

Color Palette No. 12

8 Oct

Happy Monday my dear friends!  How was your weekend?  Jonathan and I were in Washington this weekend for my cousin’s wedding.  It was really fun getting to spend some time with family.  And the wedding was fabulous!  Fall weddings are the way to go!  I will post pictures soon.

I have another color palette for you today.  So, the colors are not very “fallish” like I have been doing for my other posts but I thought I would throw you a curve ball and change it up a bit.  I really like all the soft colors in this photo and thought it would make a nice color palette.  I like the traditional light pink rose and isn’t that letter press type amazing?!  Have a wonderful day!

Happy Friday

5 Oct

Happy Friday friends!  I hope you are having a wonderful day.  Today is my day off from school so I am trying to get organized and put some time into my Christmas Project.  I can’t wait to share it with you!

This weekend we are heading to Washington for my cousin’s wedding.  I am so excited to see all my family and hopefully, put on my dancing shoes!  I just love weddings!  There is so much love and fun and happiness all in one place!

Also, what do you think about camping in Teepees?  I have only done it once a long time ago and the experience was different because the Teepee was much bigger and the surroundings less serene.  But, this picture really makes me want to go camping in the woods in a Teepee.  It looks so beautifully peaceful and woodsy (sorry I know that isn’t a word).  I have noticed a trend with Teepees lately – lots of DIYs on how to make them (like this awesome one) and lots of pictures of people with beautiful, lacey ones in their backyards.  All I know is I like it.

Have a wonderful Friday and a wonderful weekend friends!  See you next week!

Be Brave

4 Oct

Be brave.  This is my motto today.  And I think it is a great reminder.

There are times when I don’t feel brave but I just have to whisper to myself, be brave Michele.  Be brave because this is your life and you have to live it!  No one else will.

I posted this because sometimes it is hard for me to be brave with art.  Sharing your art is so personal and vulnerable.  On a regular basis, between this blog and school, I am constantly sharing art.  Sometimes I find myself being afraid to even create art because it is scary.  But the thing is, I love art!  It makes me happy.  I need to remember to be brave with my art because the only other option is to not create art.  And to not create art would be like not being me.

So today I choose to be brave!

Dreaming of…

3 Oct

The fall season always makes me want to be at home and cozy up next to a fire with hot cocoa or take a hot bath.  Since we are “away from home” at the moment, I have been doing a lot of day dreaming of things I hope to have in my home one day instead.  Here are some of the lovely things I have been dreaming of…

– Bear claw bathtubs (isn’t the above bathroom fabulous?!)

– A fireplace with a white mantle

– Front porches

– Lush garden with a plum tree

– Wallpaper – I love this one!

These are all things that don’t really work in an apartment.  And an apartment is where we are but that is ok too.  We like where we live and I think we have made it as cozy as possible.  But, maybe one day I will be allowed to cover my walls in wallpaper, or at least just one.

DIY: Gold Heart Painting

2 Oct

Today I have another fun (and easy) DIY project for you.  This painting doesn’t cost very much money in supplies and everyone can make it!  I was getting sick of some of the art we had in our house so I used a canvas I had already painted on and made a new painting over top.  Here are the rest of the materials you will need as well as the directions.   Enjoy!

This project was a little time consuming because it took awhile to glue all the book pages to the canvas and I also needed to let my paint dry a few different times but, overall, I am really happy with the way it turned out.  Originally, I was going to include a bright pink stripe somewhere on the heart but decided not to after I saw the finished product with just the gold heart.  Sometimes simple is better, right?!  What do you think, should I include the pink too?

I hope you enjoyed this DIY project!  Have a wonderful day!

Color Palette No. 11

1 Oct

Happy Monday dear friends!  How was your weekend?  Jonathan had the weekend off so we decided to celebrate fall in Corvallis.  It was fabulous!  Lots of pumpkin spice lattes and colorful leaves.

Today I decided to do another clothing color palette.  I am loving all the fall fashion in my favorite stores.  This outfit is from Anthropologie and I like the colors they put together.  And you gotta love the mixing of stripes and polka dots!  I also decided to do a little re-design for this column.  I hope you like it!

Things that make me happy

26 Sep

Hi friends!  I have another things that make me happy post today.  I am really excited about all this stuff but I am extra excited about this kitchen aid ice cream maker attachment!  Amazing!!  Just thinking about it is reminding me of my Nana’s homemade ice cream, SO yummy.  Do any of you have this attachment?  If so, does it work well?
