happy friday: fun strawberry italian ice recipe

10 Aug

Here is a fun recipe from Martha Stewart that I tweeked a bit.  We made it the other night and it was super yummy.  It is perfect for a hot summer day.  Enjoy!

Ingredients:

2 cups of strawberries, rinsed and hulled
1/3 cup light rum
1/4 cup water
3 Tbsp of sugar
1 fresh lime, juiced
Pinch of coarse salt
Garnish: strawberries

Puree strawberries, rum, water, sugar, lime juice, and salt in a blender until smooth. Divide among 14 3-ounce paper cups. Freeze on a rimmed baking sheet for at least 5 hours. Garnish with strawberries.

trend alert: crown braid

9 Aug

Have you noticed the crown braid style?  I feel like I see it everywhere!  And I like it!  But I thought I would post a few pictures of this hairstyle and see what you think about it.  I finally figured out how to do this hairstyle the other day and it turns out it is really easy.  I think it is a fun look if you want to spice up your hair.  It is also a nice way to get your hair up and out of your way and still look cute (if you like the style).  I think it would be perfect for a swimming party.  What do you think?

silver falls trip

8 Aug

Today I wanted to share some photos with you of our Silver Falls trip a couple weeks ago.  This place is a hidden gem that you must visit if you are in the area.  Silver Falls is a state park in Oregon and is about 45 mins away from where we live.  It is a beautiful state park with swimming areas, camping sites, a fun cafe AND a huge 8 something mile trail that takes you to a bunch of different beautiful waterfalls.  We started at the South Falls and from the trail head you already get to see the first big waterfall.  We probably only hiked a couple miles (as we didn’t really prepare for a major hike) but in the time we spend there we say two huge waterfalls and tons of beautiful scenery.  It is definitely worth making a trip if you are in the area!

some exciting news!

7 Aug

Good morning!  Today I have some exciting news to share with you.  I posted the above picture because it makes me feel so cheerful and happy – just like the news I am about to share!

This has been in the works for awhile now but yesterday I signed up for my first graphic design classes!  I am so excited and can hardly contain my joy!  I am never one to get very excited about school (actually I REALLY don’t like school) but this time around I think it will be different.  After talking with the director of the program and reading through all the classes, I think it is a great fit for me.  I have been considering going back to school for awhile but it was never been the right time or the right program.  But now is the time and I can’t wait!

Jonathan and I decided this year would be a perfect year for me to go back to school since we are in a very random transition in our lives and will only be living in Oregon for a year before we move again.  Also, Jonathan is doing his intern year of Residency this year and traditionally, this is the hardest year in all his training.  Because we know this year will be so busy for him, I thought this would be a good time to be in school since I will spend a lot of time at campus and on homework.

I am a little nervous too.  I haven’t been a student for a long time and I think it will be weird being back in the classroom.  But I believe this is exactly where I need to be right now and I think this is the right challenge for me to take this year.  Have you ever been afraid of doing something but feel it is exactly what you need to do?

So cheers to art and new beginnings!  I hope you have a wonderful day friends.

Happy Monday!  How was your weekend!?  Jonathan and I have been traveling a ton lately so we decided to stay in Corvallis this weekend and I think it was a good decision.  We were able to relax and get caught up on stuff around the house.  We also took a quick day trip out to the Oregon Coast on Saturday.  It was a beautiful day for the beach and we even got a little sunburn!

Today I have a fun color palette to share with you.  This color palette is full of fun pinks and I think you will enjoy it!

happy friday

3 Aug

Happy Friday!  I have a few fun pictures to share from our Colorado trip earlier this week.  We had SO much fun spending time in Colorado and visiting with friends.  The weather was really hot and we got to experience a lot of thunder/lighting/rain storms while we were there – which I love!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

things that make me happy

2 Aug

Today I am sharing with you another things that make me happy post.  I really like mixing colors right now and I think this apricot skirt would be so cute with the polk-a-dot shoes.  And that do you think of this wonderful Ipad case by Madewell?!  I just love it!  I hope you have a beautiful day!

Happy August

1 Aug

Happy August!  Can you believe it is already August?!  Do you have any big plans for this month?  Jonathan and I just got back from Colorado and we had the most fabulous time!  One of Jonathan’s best friends from college lives near Denver so we flew in to visit him and his family.  It was so fun to explore a new place and have some quality time with friends.

Have a great day!

DIY: cards with rounded corners

31 Jul

Today I have a REALLY easy DIY project for you. It literally has 3 easy steps and it doesn’t cost very much either! One thing I love more than anything else is making cards. And for awhile I have been wondering how people get the cute rounded edge look and I finally figured it out and want to share it with you. It turns out all you need is a simple little tool from your local craft store that just clips edges in a perfectly symmetrical way. Below is the simple instructions. Enjoy!

color palette no. 3

30 Jul

Welcome to color palette Monday! It looks like Mondays are turning into color palette days. I don’t know if I will keep it this way but I am going to keep this Monday column for now. Today I chose a color palette that has many beautiful neutral tones with just a pop of color. I love how these colors interact with one another. And they are colors I wouldn’t necessarily choose otherwise but together they are perfect.
