dreaming of nurseries

23 Jul

Lately I have been thinking a lot about our baby girl’s nursery.  I assume this is a natural part of the pregnancy nesting process.  Because we rent we can’t do any major changes to the room but it is still fun to think of creative ways to jazz up the new nursery.  I have found that I am really drawn to very simply, natural design.  I really like rooms that are all white or have a light brown wood accent and maybe a small pop of color.  Here are a few nurseries I have been crushing on lately.

One thing I know I want to do is make a cute mobile like the one above.  Isn’t it fabulous?!

Explore Your City // Original Pabst Brewery

8 Jul

One of the fun things about exploring a new city has been learning all about it’s history.  Milwaukee has such a unique culture/heritage and I have loved diving into it head first.  The other day our neighbors invited us on the Pabst Brewery tour.  Pabst started in downtown Milwaukee, and at one time it was the biggest brewery in the world.  We had so much fun learning about the Pabst story and seeing some of the old buildings.  Thank you Craig and Mark for bringing us along!

It’s a girl!

The time has finally come to announce our big news…we are pregnant with a sweet baby girl!  It seems kind of crazy to be finally sharing this news because we have been keeping this secret for so long!  But, now the secret is out and we are over the moon excited about this big change in our life!

Lately, Jonathan and I have been day dreaming about what it will be like to raise a little girl.  We already love her so much and can’t imagine how much more love we will feel once she is here.  I keep thinking about how I felt when we were in the ultrasound appointment waiting to hear if she was going to be a boy or a girl.  We had to wait until the very end of the appointment to find out because she was situated in a way that the technician couldn’t tell for sure.  And, when she finally told us I instantly cried.  I just felt so much love and emotion for that sweet little girl.  Such a beautiful and crazy experience, and one I will never forget.

So far being pregnant has been quite the wild ride.  No one can really prepare you for what your first pregnancy will be like – especially because experiences can vary so much!  My first trimester wasn’t a worst-case-scenario by any means, but I will say, being nauseous from morning to night is no walk in the park!  And, my cravings weren’t outrageous but for awhile I was eating 3 to 4 oranges a day.  I would practically have a panic attack if we ran out of oranges in the refrigerator!  Mostly, I am just happy to be out of the woods with that part of pregnancy and have my energy back.

Well, that is our exciting news!  So happy to share it with you!

The Domes

26 Feb

domes 1Hello!  Today I wanted to share a few pictures from my  Milwaukee Domes adventure that I talked about last week.  Aren’t they magical?!  On Saturday I enjoyed checking out all the booths at the Farmer’s Market, and then sat myself down in the tropical down for a good hour to read and bask in the warm air!  It was so wonderful, and such a lifesaver in these polar temperatures!

Recent Project + Happy Friday

21 Feb

invite_6Good morning friends!  And, happy Friday!  I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to the weekend!  One reason I am especially excited is because of a recent discover I made.  I don’t know if any of you have heard of the Milwaukee Domes, but they are seriously fabulous.  They are these three huge domes and inside each one is a different conservatory climate: tropical, desert, and rotating dome.  This winter my favorite is the tropical dome because it feel so tropical.  When you walk inside you are instantly transported to a warm, tropical land where birds are chirping and there is beautiful plant life everywhere. I have know about the domes for awhile but my recent discovery is that they host a winter farmers market every Saturday and admission is free!  Tomorrow I plan to get there right when it opens, buy some coffee and sit in the tropical dome and read.  I am so excited!

Today I also wanted to share with you a recent project I have been working on.  The above image is a baby shower invite I designed for a friend.  It is a co-ed shower so we wanted to keep it simple and incorporate neutral tones.  Here is the final product.

Have a great weekend!

so cold!

27 Jan

socold

I know it has been a million years since I have blogged, and I am so sorry.   Life got a little crazy for awhile, and I just couldn’t find the time!  But, recently I have made of few changes in my life and I am hoping to get back to a routine around here soon!

Today I don’t actually have anything too exciting to report other than it has been insanely cold in Milwaukee!  I mean don’t-leave-your-house-for-days cold!  That pesky “polar vortex” has been hitting us pretty hard!  Today the high is negative two and the low is negative seventeen!  And, this isn’t even the coldest day!  I used to think Spokane had cold winters, but now they seem like nothing compared to this!  Although, I have heard that this is the coldest winter Milwaukee has had in a really long time and that does make me feel better.  But still, I am really hoping it starts to warm up soon because this weather is really starting to get to me.  I am ready for some sunshine, and vitamin D!

Have a wonderful day friends!  Stay warm!

A Few Updates

9 Nov

crystal lake illinoisHello!  And, happy Saturday!  This Saturday is especially wonderful because it is the first Saturday that I don’t have to work in a really long time.  I plan to relax, do a little shopping, and work on a fun DIY project I have been wanting to do for awhile.

Also, I wanted to share a couple pictures with you from last weekend.  The above picture is a photo I took while we where in Crystal Lake, Illinois.  We drove there to visit Jonathan’s great Aunt and Uncle, and we had so much fun!  They cooked us so much yummy food, and we played games and talked late into the night.  It was wonderful!  I cherish the time we had there, and really appreciated them inviting us to visit!

david sedaris

Here is the other picture I wanted to share with you.  Last Friday night Jonathan surprised me with tickets to see David Sedaris at the Pabst Theater!  And, to be honest, it was the funniest live performance I have ever been too!  Seriously so good!  On top of David Sedaris being amazing, the Pabst Theater is stunning as well.  I highly recommend going to a show there if you ever get the chance.  I mean look at that chandelier!  We had a really good time, and I hope to see many more shows there!

Happy weekend!

Backyard Dinner Parties

14 Oct

jonathan

I thought I would post a few pictures from our backyard dinner parties as a tribute to summer.  It is definitely Fall here in Milwaukee, and we are loving the crisp air and beautiful fall foliage.  As we gear up for the colder months, I thought I would show you a small snippet of our first summer in Milwaukee.  We found this awesome wooden picnic table in our backyard behind our garage, and that is where we got the idea to start throwing backyard dinner parties.

When Holly came to town we threw her a small birthday party in the backyard, and invited our friends from next door.  It was such a memorable night filled with twinkle lights, glasses of champagne, and a big chocolate cake.  We also threw a few parties with friends as well as had dinner out there just the two of us, and each one of those nights was uniquely special.

I think this summer has been so important to me because it is so drastically different from last year.  Last year had it’s own special set of memories for us, but it was also a challenging year.  For one, we lived in a much different space without backyard, and our neighbors weren’t interested in getting to know us.  This new season has a been a breath of fresh air, and one I am so thankful for.  Here are a few pictures of our summer nights spent in our backyard.
